ATV MAINTENANCE CHECK LIST |
|
Details |
Information |
|
Engine |
Check
the oil for the proper levels every time before you start your machine.
Add the same type and grade recommended by the owners manual. |
|
Oil |
Change oil every other month. For heavy riding, change once a month. Check for leaks from wear and tear. |
|
Spark Plugs |
Replace spark plugs every other month for maximum efficiency. |
|
Carburetor |
Too Detailed to list as Many are Fuel Injected. |
|
Shaft Driven |
Machines
that use a short shaft attached to the motor and ending at the
dirrerential located at the rear end of the machine. Keep this
lubricated and free of dust. Change the gear oil about every 3 to 4
months. |
|
Chain Driven |
Machines
that are chain driven are a little more maintenance prone but are
relatively inexpensive to replace. Inspect each sprocket once a month
and check the teeth for wear and tear. Lubricate the chain before every
ride to prolong the life of the chain. Check chain for slack or the
chain will break. |
| Tires |
Air
pressure can play a major role in the handling and control of the
machine. Tires that are blown up to maximum air pressure will tend to
ride harder and be a little more aggressive at times while cornering.
Soft tires tend to ride better but it becomes harder to turn corners
because of tire rolling. Types of tires range from 2 ply to 4 ply to 6
ply which refers to thickness and strength. The thicker the tire ply
the higher the strength and durability. The thickness also applies to
the hardness of the ride. Check the manufacturers recommendations for
different conditions. |
| Disc Brakes |
Usually,
two discs in the front and one in the rear along with a brake caliper
are used to stop the machine. The disc's open face allows for mud,
snow, dirt or other materials that can cause effects when braking. Make
sure disc's are clean before each ride. Lubricate brake cables and
moving parts before every ride. Replace shoes and pads when worn and
test brakes before each ride. |
